How to Stop Google from Tracking your Location

Google is fond of collecting data on users’ activities. It includes your activity even if you have disabled this feature. As most people think, you also must have thought that turning off the location history in the account settings will turn your location off. According to an investigation, even if you disable location history, you will be tracked every time you open Google Maps, search for weather updates or look for things in your browser. Don’t worry, as there are ways to stop it. Anyone having an iOS or Android device can be affected by this. More than 2 billion people have faced it.
Although, Google’s page claims that once you have deleted your location history for Google Account, places you go to are no longer stored. Turning off the history for Google Account will turn it off for all the devices associated with Google Account. But in reality, turning off Location History will only stop Google from creating a timeline of your location. Some applications will still track you.
For actually turning off the location tracking, you need to navigate to a setting buried deep inside your Google Account called Web and App Activity. That is set by default to share your information, not just your location but the IP address too. It is not very easy to find that setting.
Stop Google Location Tracking
To stop Google tracking, you need to disable “location History” and turn off “Web and App activity” for your Google Account.
For Android
  1. Go to Google Account webpage in your favorite browser.
  2. Tap on Manage your Google activity under the Personal Information and Privacy.
  3. Tap on Go To Activity Controls.
  4. Turn off Web and App Activity.
  5. Turn off the Location History.
According to Andrew Orr, turning off Location history is not enough to prevent Google from tracking your location. You also need to turn off the web and app activity because the Google apps and services will otherwise log your location even with Location history turned off.
 The changes made to Settings apply to all your devices logged into your Google account. This means that now you don’t need to go to your iPhone, iPad and make changes to your settings.
